SAN JUAN CITY – The San Beda Red Cubs won in record fashion over the still winless Angeles Univesity Foundation Junior Danes, 172-39, in the resumption of NCAA Season 85 action at the San Juan Arena Wednesday (August 5).

Employing a balanced attack on both ends of the court, the Red Cubs of Coach Edmundo Badolato raced to an 11-0 lead en route to taking the first period, 41-6, behind the 11 points of Baser Amer.

By the halftime break, the margin had ballooned to 88-12. The Red Cubs thus broke the record for highest total points and highest winning margin both set by the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers in their 171-47 demolition of the same Angeles squad two weeks ago.

The Red Cubs’ defense limited the Junior Danes to six points in each of the first three periods. The Junior Danes coughed up a horrific 77 turnovers against only 19 for the Red Cubs. The Red Cubs registered 32 steals against only four for the Junior Danes. Overall, the Red Cubs translated the Junior Danes’ turnovers into 108 points.

Arthur dela Cruz led the Red Cubs with 30 points as three other teammates had 20 or more points. Eight of the 11 Red Cubs fielded had 10 or more markers. However, Amer stole the show with his quadruple double of 16 points, 12 rebounds, 20 assists and 14 steals in 30 minutes of play.

Gary Gando topped the Junior Danes with 11 points and nine rebounds followed by Leo Tuazon with 10 points.

The Red Cubs upped their win-loss card to 7-1 while the Junior Danes fell to 0-8.
