San Beda and Jose Rizal University try to stay in the hunt for twice-to-beat incentives in the Final Four as they take on St. Benilde and Angeles U Foundation, respectively, in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City today.

Behind Mark Cagoco’s 19-point performance, the Bombers tamed the Lions, 77-64, last week to tie their victim in second at 13-2, two games behind San Sebastian’s unbeaten 15-0 mark with two weeks left in the double-round elims.

Both JRU and SBC are fancied to topple their respective rivals for their 14th win with the Bombers taking on the Great Danes at 2 p.m. and the Lions clashing with the Blazers at 4 p.m.

“Our goal now is to finish in the top two and clinch the twice-to-beat advantage. So every win is important,” said Jose Rizal coach Ariel Vanguardia, whose wards blasted the Danes, 82-53, in the first round.

Leading MVP candidate John Wilson, who had 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in their previous win, is expected to come in fresh and fully recovered from a bout with flu.

Meanwhile, San Beda, whose 12-game streak was snapped by Jose Rizal U last week, is expected to vent its ire on St. Benilde, which is coming off a 74-61 rout of the Great Danes last Friday.

“After our recent loss, we’re left with no choice but to win our remaining games because our goal of gaining the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four is still possible,” said San Beda mentor Frankie Lim.

JRU and SBC are also priming up for their much-awaited clashes with San Sebastian with the Bombers taking on the Stags on Monday and the Lions squaring off with the Recoletos-based squad on Oct. 7.
